The Iridium 9602 SBD is smaller and cheaper, but it connects and communicates differently, so a redesign of the device that integrates the old transceiver was necessary in order to install the new one. With the EMA Adaptor Board 9612, a redesign can be avoided, and the 9602 transceiver can be fitted in the 9601’s place with no extra development effort.
