EMA / BlueTraker has received the Best Multi-Orbit Implementation Award at the closing event of Deutsche Telekom IoT’s Satellite IoT Multi-Orbit Early Adopter Program in Bonn, Germany. We are proud to receive this recognition, which reflects our continuous effort to advance maritime connectivity and integrate new communication technologies into practical solutions for the fisheries sector.
The Satellite IoT Multi-Orbit Early Adopter Program brought together 15 European companies developing IoT solutions, six research organizations, satellite operators Skylo, OQ Technology and Sateliot, and technology partners including Nordic Semiconductor and KYOCERA AVX. Over 12 months, the participants explored how multi-orbit satellite connectivity can extend IoT coverage beyond terrestrial networks and enable new applications.
Multi-orbit connectivity for maritime applications
Within this framework, BlueTraker focused on the specific connectivity challenges of maritime applications, where vessels often operate outside terrestrial network coverage. BlueTraker received the award for successfully integrating multiple satellite networks into a resilient connectivity solution for maritime applications.
The results of the 12-month development and testing program are now being integrated into new models of BlueTraker VMS, an onboard multi-channel communication transponder used in Vessel Monitoring Systems for fisheries. By combining different communication channels, the system can provide greater flexibility and resilience where terrestrial coverage is limited or unavailable.
From testing to new BlueTraker products
Building on this work, BlueTraker is also applying the experience gained in the program to the development of the new BlueTraker Solar Mk3, a transponder designed for small-scale fisheries. The new model will benefit from the satellite multi-constellation capabilities evaluated during the program with Deutsche Telekom IoT and its technology and satellite partners.
The program provided BlueTraker with an opportunity to evaluate emerging satellite IoT technologies and transfer the results into the next generation of maritime communication products.
