Q. 1. What is exactly the meaning of BT 2200 "hybrid" device?

BT 2200 "hybrid" device is an integrated device, combining following components under one compact housing:

- SAT module
- GPRS module
- GPS module
- all antennas
- backup battery
- other supporting electronics

Q. 2. What are the benefits of "hybrid" device?

Dual communication channels will help in keeping the costs down. Low cost terrestrial GPRS/SMS channel is used in coastal areas and IRIDIUM satellite channel on the high seas for real time transmittion. Satellite channel enables global coverage, while GPRS channel enables High Resolution Data Request (HRDR) and Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) upgrade.

Q. 3. What is reporting interval or reporting frequency?

- Periodical interval transmittion of navigation messages (position, speed, time, direction)
- Reporting interval is adjustable separately for GPRS and Satellite
- Most often, reporting interval settings for vessels are:
- GPRS: 15 min - 1h
- SAT: 1h - 4h

Q. 4. How will I choose the reporting interval?

BlueTraker devices are configurable over the air with possibilities to change Satellite and/or GPRS reporting intervals. If you want to change the reporting interval, contact your authorized seller of BlueTraker devices.

Q. 5. What is the maximum number of reports that can be stored on the bluetraker (reports history)?

BlueTraker VMS has internal nonvolatile memory that can store regular reports for minimum 4 months (usually for more then 6 months). We are considering regular reports as: - Satellite messages in 2 hour interval. - GPRS messages in 15 minutes interval. When GPRS is not available data are stored and transmitted from internal memory after GPRS network is available again. FMC can remotely change each interval and therefore change the number of reports stored per month.

Q. 6. Is it possible to receive detail rout for backward?

BlueTrakerVMS has possibility to store navigational reports in internal memory at SI (Sample Intervals). Usually SI is adjusted to 5 minutes, to get really accurate vessels route, while it can be remotely adjusted to different interval. Data stored at SI intervals are downloaded to FMC on operator request per day. This means that one request will activate downloading High Resolution Data for one day with 5 minutes navigational reports. When High Resolution Data are needed for several days in the past then several High Definition Requests has to be sent to BlueTrakerVMS device one per each day. High Resolution Data are downloaded to FMC when GPRS coverage is available.

Q. 7. How data is transferred to the control centre? (technical specifications and data format)

Data are formatted and stored directly into SQL database on FMC. Separate table is created in SQL database where data are stored and not overlap with any other data. It is very easy to import/interface the data to existing GIS visualization software that FMC use report from one vessel is one record in SQL table.

Q. 8. Is that the administration of bluetraker can be done from FMC? (pool, loading fisheries areas, changing the frequency of reports)

Mainly Iridium satellite communication channel is used for changing parameters and invoke poll commands. Geo-Cones can be stored locally in BlueTrakerVMS device. Geo-Cone detection can be also done inside VMS application used in FMC. All intervals can be changed remotely.

Q. 9. Is your company can able to provide us with the technical specifications to integrate pool, loading fisheries areas, changing the frequency of reports in our monitoring system or we must use your vessel monitoring service?

EMA can supply complete VMS system or only BlueTrakerVMS units. When using only VMS units we are strongly recommend using so called TDS server which combines all communication channels that the unit can use and interface the data to SQL table in FMC. TDS also help to manage the bidirectional commands: poll, change of reporting interval, ... is invoked with simple write of correct command into dedicated SQL table in FMC.
